In search of a burst of sunshine and a day without Txirimiri on a rainy weekend in Bilbao, last week I flew down with three friends to Málaga. It’s safe to say from the moment we stepped off the plane, we were pleasantly surprised with not only the drastic improvement in weather, but also the smiles from the locals and the sights of the city. Málaga is a city jam-packed with culture, beautiful architecture and a fabulous coastline.
Here are my top five spots in Málaga:
Catedral de Málaga
General Admission 6€ (Students 3€)
Located in the heart of the city, complete with an audio guided tour, the Cathedral is not to be missed.
Alcazaba
Free on Sundays, with the entrance located next to the Roman amphitheatre, this steady castle climb boasts hidden secrets, rows of orange trees and a view of the city.
Mirador de Gibralfaro
If you’re not up to the hike up (we weren’t) take the number 35 bus from the city centre for a fifteen minute ride up to the viewpoint.

Airport to city:
Take the C1 train (1.80€) direct from the airport to the city centre (Málaga Centro Alameda)
Where did we stay?
Head to the AC Hotel Malaga Palacio and take the lift to the top floor for a drink at sunset to catch a stunning view of the city.
